So our house guests have headed south, without getting a ride in our plane. As you may recall the right rudder failed its continuity check prior to take-off Monday. I didn’t have time to look at it until tonight. It turns out that the swage at the wing root failed during Elizabeth’s flutter testing due to the high wind loading. The swage was imperfect when originally crimped, so we snipped the end and re-swaged the cable. Unfortunately we shortened the cable just a touch, and I’m not sure we have enough length to adjust it and get the rudder to close completely. We’ll look at that tomorrow and decide if it needs to be replaced or not. By the way, this is a terribly cramped location to try and work, and I don’t recommend it. The attached picture is the opposite end of the cable, but gives you an idea of the connection.
