We’re planning on bringing the Fox to the Central States Association‘s Rough River Canard Fly-in this weekend. I say planning because this isn’t our first attempt, yet we’ve not gotten the airplane to the airport. Followers of the blog recall that in 2008 we departed Cincinnati only to land on Indiana Highway 3 in the town of Otisco. We hope to get all the way this year! Since then we’ve done a huge amount of work to the airplane and we’re looking forward to showing her off, not the least of which is painting and applying decals. The weather is looking like it will cooperate, and we have a cabin reserved in the park (located about 50 nm south west of Louisville and 127 nm almost due south of Indianapolis or 148 nm almost due east of Cape Girardeau and 90 nm nearly due north of Nashville). The park is absolutely beautiful this time of year. If you haven’t been there, check out the website for more information and pictures.

Central States, or CSA, is a really vibrant and interesting group of canard builders and fliers, with their own newsletter and events, as well as features like the “travel club” where you can offer or enjoy a bed while you’re traveling in your canard. Long-EZ driver Terry Schubert does a great job of creating a quarterly newsletter with a wealth of content including builder’s tips as well as trip reports and other articles of interest to Canardians. The CSA started as a primarily Long Ez group, and has to some extent been overrun by Cozy builders and owners. Because of this, and the lack of Velocity members, some folks complain that it is segmented into classes or cliques. I believe this is overblown and will get a lot better when we have more complete Velocity representation in the group, so I encourage folks to consider not only attending the fly-in, but to join CSA.

In any event, we’re looking forward to flying in and hope to see all of you there, and look for pictures and updates here in the coming days. Since the weather looks good, we’re hoping to get 70+ canards in attendance again this year. If you want to join Central States send a check for $30 to Terry at the address below!
