Apparently the best kept secret in the Velocity community is that pretty much all of the XL’s need more pitch trim than the standard spring provides. We’d been dealing with this ever since our last (panel and interior) upgrade, where at pattern speeds the pitch trim ran out on final and we had to hold some back pressure. Sub-optimal doesn’t do it justice. The upside is that there is a new spring, and it seems to work just fine. Our buddy Andy reports good success, and our initial flights show vast improvement. We still want to do full range testing of the various CG’s we’ll fly, but it’s a big improvement. The only downside is if the trim became stuck or failed, you would get quite a workout to overwhelm it. Such is life, I suppose.
