We just returned from a week at Myrtle Beach, and we didn’t fly. I wasn’t going to post about it at first, but this is exactly the kind of vacation the plane would be perfect for. Yes, we should get an instrument rating, and yes, we didn’t have the 5 hours of “major change” test flying flown off, but otherwise this trip was right in the Velocity’s wheelhouse.
The drive was about 11 hours without meal stops, but the flight from I68 to KCRE‘s 4,500’ of pavement would be just 430 nautical miles. Sure it’s slightly over 2 hours of flying, but it’s 2 HOURS of flying! Believe me, that’s a whole other experience. The drive is an all day affair, and frankly you don’t want to do much after it. Two hours in a plane that flies above the bumps with autopilot is a non-event.
As a flying destination, it was very nice. We stayed at Long Bay, and the beach was wonderful, as was the hotel/condo. We shared a 3 bedroom with great amenities. We had full beach view, AC, washer and dryer, dishwasher, flat screen TVs in every room, as well as covered and outdoor pools and hot tubs.
