We’ve finally flown with our Vortex Generators installed. For more about installing them check out this article. We have found, in the very limited flying we’ve done so far, that the VGs have lowered our ‘pitch buck’ stall speed by 5 kias (to 70 kias with 2 pilots – very close to forward most CG), and it has evened out stall behavior with the speed brake down. The speed brake still makes the airplane pitchy at 79 kias, but it doesn’t stall until 71. Single pilot speeds are all about 10 kts lower, but net this means that flying final at 85 kts is perfectly reasonable, and even 80 would be acceptable without using the speed brake. Elizabeth also reports that the airplane is more stable (requires more input to initiate turns) and has a little bit better aileron response at low speed.
