Ok, so I’ve been pretty lax in getting updates to the blog. Dave didn’t want Elizabeth flying solo until she (got her cast off and) could open the door on her own in case of emergency. That was slated for (and happened) this week, and we were working on some ideas for getting our oil temperatures down anyway, so not a bunch happened. By Wednesday we were ready to fly but the weather wouldn’t cooperate. So I thought that a primary issue with my oil temps might be the exhaust radiating heat into my oil sump (which is painted blue), and perhaps not due to the oil bringing heat out of the motor. To combat that I wrapped the exhaust with nomex wrap from Spruce. I also built an air diverter into the pilot side runner to force air to go down to the oil cooler, but only a flight would tell us if we gained anything or not. Well, Beth flew tonight in 80 degree muggy heat, and the temps were better, but not dramatically, running no higher than about 240F. Clearly there’s still work to do.
